Shimano nexus - what shifters work?

I have a nexus 3 for my city bike, but the handlebars I have and want to run are road sized, so the shifter doesn't freaking fit

What else will work? SA thumby? Shimano thumby?

Hey there.
I've got a 3spd Nexus but I don't have the damn bellcrank nor the shifter.
I know one of those "muscle" 3spd SA shifters dont work without the bell crank.
That shit's got a little piston that induce gear change.
Sorry man, i'm just upset because I still couldn't get mine to work.

aj any shimano three speed shifter for an internal will work with the nexus. but not a sa shifter sorry the detentes are different. i have seen friction shifters used although i know for hub longevity having those clicks is very important so i personally cant see a friction shifter being reliable. i think i have seen people make machined spacers that go in the end of the bar then sleeve down to the regular bar size. if mike cant make it talk to loren over at college i remember he made one for a guy once who had this same issue
